Replace main brg cap bolts?

Yes, I did think the chamfer you mentioned was something else. I was concerned about the surface immediately below the cap on the bolt and the opening in the rod. See below showing a chamfered bore lip. I’ve had bolts (never inside an engine) hang up because the rod couldn’t seat because of a lack of chamfer.

Either way, if the rod torques tight and then wears and moves, it’s got to come apart eventually.

Your drawing shows an interesting problem easily overlooked.

That is my recollection also. Possibly compounded by over-reving because of an under-reading tacho I believe. Left a lot of oil on the track…
