Hopefully attached photo makes sense -
Hello All Jag Guru’s,
I’m getting to the final stages of my XJ6C S2 (1975) restoration & am looking at how to slightly modify the interior / dash to accommodate better electronics, AC controls etc.
My hope is that the S3 center console (with “3-layers”, rather than the S2 “2 layer”) would fit under the wooden dash.
Appreciate any knowledge / advice.
I think it would fit, though I can’t guaranty this.
But IIRC the early SIII cars maintained the SII console and the switched to the later one.
You might have to change the lower console as well in order to fit though.
The Delanair unit is the same in both cars, so you would not have a problem with the different climate control fascia.
And even if it’s not a direct fit, I bet that it could work with minor modifications.
Personally I can’t see how this would come out right.
I think the problem would be where the upper portion of the lower/main console mates the upper radio/switch console. The shape and configuration is substantially different. You’ll need the Series III main console, IMO
OTOH, I’ll wager the Ser III main console is a direct swap so you should be able to do this upgrade rather easily

Correct!
The change was made circa 1982
