I updated this topic almost four months ago. I have been mainly driving, washing, waxing, and enjoying. Well, I did some minor cosmetic work on the car during the summer.
Next, I will replace the left rear hub carrier fulcrum bearings. I have ordered in two CAC4610 bearings. Based on the information I have gathered, the process is:
- Remove the hub/control arm bolt. Mark the bolt before removing so that when you install it later your alignment doesn’t suffer.
- Support the hub using a floor jack.
- Remove the bearing and pull it out along with the sleeve.
- Remove the old bearing race. This seems to be the difficult part. Maybe I bend a screwdriver shaft so that I could approach the race from the opposite side of the hub. The other option is to cut off the race using a Dremel tool. Some people have welded metal to the race and then used a punch and a hammer to remove the race. That will be my last resort.
- Clean up the pivot pin sleeve and the outer pivot pin (bolt).
- Tap in the new outer bearing race using a 30 mm socket.
- Grease up the new bearings using a high temperature lithium grease.
- Reinstall the bolt using your previous marks and torque to 80-85 ft-lbs.
Let us see how it goes in practice!
