[s-type] Bootlid finisher

I bought new S Type Sport 2.7d back in March this year and
it was supplied with a chrome bootlid finisher. I thought
this was odd at the time as it clearly said in the specs /
brochures etc. that the sport came with a body coloured
finisher etc. I was so wrapped up in the joy of finally
getting a new jag, that I didn’t make a fuss. Now that I’ve
had the car a few months, the chrome bootlid finisher is
starting to bug me! It doesn’t look right and I think it
spoils the look / balance of the car. I went back to the
dealer and asked if they could change it to a body coloured
finisher and they said yes…but it would cost 400!!! They
said that Jaguar used to supply body coloured finishers as
standard on the sport but with later cars, they have
reverted to chrome. Does anyone know if this is
correct…or are they just spinning me a yarn? I would
really like a body coloured boot finisher…but 400 seems
excessive…especially as I think the car should have been
supplied with one in the 1st place. Sorry if this seems like
a trivial thing…but the dealers attitude, more than
anything has wound me up!

Any views?

Err, wasn’t it launched in April? My Sport is one of a bunch of
identical ones (at least six to my knowledge) that went to dealers
as demonstrators. All of these have chrome fittings instead of the
colour-keyed stuff and I think they look great. Maybe you should
find out how much it would be to fit chrome all round…–

Stuart,

I too was surprised to see a chrome boot lid finisher on our
midnight black diesel sport which was ordered back in April 05.
When it arrived at the dealers recently I was told that this is now
standard across the range. Like yourself I prefer the body coloured
finish and feel it suits the exterior cosmetics of the Sport model
better, however I may grow accustomed to the chrome finish.

I would certainly not expect to pay anything like 400 to have the
specification that was originally ordered from Jaguar. If it’s
possible to fit the body coloured plinth then surely this should be
offered as a no cost option as a gesture of goodwill.

All the best

The Jaguar UK website is still listing body coloured boot finisher
as standard on the Sport. Suggest you print it out and wave it
under your dealer’s nose…
