I have the same issue with my 99 S-Type 3.0 Auto, although I know
why this is…
On my car, I had a rear caliper seize on. At low speeds, it wasn’t
noticable, but at motorway velocities, it became apparant. As I
don’t do many m-way journies, I forgot to get it sorted and after a
couple of weeks, on a long run, I got quite concerned by the
juddering coming from the back end.
As I was 120miles from home, I called the AA and the very nice man
took the rear wheel off to find the caliper stuck on. He removed
the caliper and found a bit of rust under the seal, which was
preventing the piston from sliding in / out. He cleaned it up and
the caliper has been fine since (I am replacing the seal in a few
weeks).
After this remedial work, I’ve had a squeaking rear brake. I
beleive that the disc got warped when I was on the m-way, due to
the heat build up of the caliper being stuck on and this is now
causing the squeak. You can’t see the warp, but you can hear it
and feel it at high speeds.
It could be that you have a warped disc… or, that when your
brakes were changed, the garage didn’t use any copper grease on the
system. If you’re feeling like getting U’re hands dirty, you could
try copper greasing the offending brakes yourself…
Hope that helps.
