My 2000 car did not have the heated windshield in front. Switch is there but assumed that
this was just to fill the hole in the dash. As usual assuming something can bite one in the
rear end at times.

When replacing my windshield the gent brought the wrong version, a heated one, which I
did not need. Instead of waiting another day I told him to put it in the car. Helped and
watched as he did it. Funny thing was that there were wires in the surround for the heater
element, so we hooked them up.

In Arizona we rarely have the chance to use it but one morning it was chilly and there was
some frost on the car when I got in. Decided to try the system and for some reason it worked
on the right side but not left. Worked very well and liked the way it worked. Assumed that the
installer had forgotten to hook up the left side wires.

Was troubleshooting my inop windshield washer pump last week and found something
interesting in the engine compartment fuse box panel. There was a fuse in the right side
space for the heated windshield but not for the right. Decided to get some extra fuses and
give it a try. After buying a second fuse of the correct size stuck it in the socket and no luck.
Seems that there is a “power terminal” in the socket but that’s it. There is no wire on the
other side of the fuse going to the relay that controls the right side of the windshield.

This post is a bit of info and a request for info if possible. Has anyone been in this same
situation and added the bits necessary to get the left side of the heating working in the
windshield? I am assuming that its a bit of wiring and possibly another relay but who knows.

Thx,

i think you will find that there is a relay missing for the other
side of the window.most stype’s have heated park for the wipers and
when you fit a full heated screen to the car you will need another
relay to go in the fuse box for the other side of the heated
windscreen

I just went through the exact same situation! Safe-lite came to
replace my windshield and brought the wrong one (fully heated).
When they hooked it up only the right side heated. I thought it
was some wiring gremlin (as all the terminals were hooked up). I’m
going to run a wire from the the terminals to try and see if I
can ‘engineer’ the whole windshield to heat. As long as it’s
energized, it should. Seeing as how the resistors for the side
that is working should work for the other side, I don’t see any
issues on why it won’t work.–
