[s-type] MY DIESEL S TYPE THAT WILL PUT ME IN MY GRAVE!

So to keep everyone up to date on my diesel S Type. Just 2 weeks
after after spending over 3,100.00 to run after 7 WEEKS in the
garage, the engine management light came on! I took it to the
garage and could find no codes and switched the light off. Just
everything settling down I was told. The light came on the very
next morning just as I started a round trip of 250 miles. The car
got me where I was going and back and ran superb but the light was
on. Took it back to the garage. Now we had a code saying No 3
injector inbalance. All 6 injectors are new so car booked into
Royles of Wilmslow for a no cost to me replacement of the faulty
injector. Meanwhile management light went off! Without car for a
further 4 days while Royles replaced injector, which as it made no
difference to the car they decided to charge 200.00 for the labour
involved. BUT! Engine management light back on! Royles say a
further 5 hours of investigation is needed at 100 per hour to find
out why the light is on.
When will it end

John.–

So now having got it back from Royles. When it went in it was
driving superbly but now there is a lag between pressing the
accelerator and the car accelerating. I press the accelerator and
the car moves forward slowly for about 1 second and then without
any further pressure on the accelerator the car kicks in and
rockets off! Very disconcerting! However if I switch the engine off
and then restart, everything ok. What do you think? Royles have
said bring it back in but I just know it will drive ok when they
have it.

John.–

I wonder if a reflashing of the gearbox software is needed but I
know if the battery has been disconected the autobox has to
relearn the shifting patterns.–

Car going back into Royles on Friday for a re check of what they
did.
However I have a theory - I have also noticed that if the car is
left standing for 24hrs or more, on start up the the starter
motor ‘kicks back’, the engine runs lumpy and heavy diesel smoke
comes out of the o/s exhaust. The amount of smoke and how long it
takes to disperse is directly proportinate to how long it has
stood. Now my theory is this :- one of the injectors on the o/s
bank is weeping while the car is standing. On the next start up the
excess diesel causes the cylinder to ‘hydraulic’ slightly 'kicking
back the starter and of course the smoke and lumpy running. The EM
System then detects a richness and reduces fuel levels causing the
initial flat acceleration. This continues until I switch off and
restart. Everything resets and all is well. I am going to tell
Royles about my theory. What do you think? By the way it is
definitly not the gearbox.

Sounds feasible to me John, but then again anything would because
modern diesels are that complex they just loss me off
When the fault codesare read it should show up if its an injector
problem.–

I’ve had my injectors changed twice under warranty due to injector
dribble. Apparently this was to cure the occasional misfire when the car
was warming up. It did make it run smoother for a time but it still
misses when it’s cold in winter.
