I have a 2001 S-Type that is occasionally very noisy when sitting
at idle. I crawled underneath and noticed that the noise appears
to be coming from the spinning of the torque converter. Has anyone
had this problem and is there a fix?–

I would start with a Gearbox filter/oil change.
It would improve things a lot.
