[s-type] Please help me ASAP.. immediate help needed! my S-type

Hey guys… well I got a back up camera for my car… and I have
installed everything in the boot/trunk, except I have no idea to
where to connect the red (live wire) and the black (ground wire) to
the tail light… As the manual says the red goes to the power wire
of the REVERSE light, so when you put the car in reverse the
camera will come on, and the black one goes to the ground wire of
the tail light…

Well the tail light of my Jaguar S-type 2000 has one plug with like
7 wires coming out of the plug, and I have no idea which one is
ground, and which one is the power wire for the reverse light.

Please Please Please look at the detailed picture below for what I
mean.:

Please Help me… My car is apart outside… lol… I need to finish
this up ASAP

Thanks,

Paul

I don’t know which one will be the alt 12v for the reverse, but the
easiest and quickest way (without someone replying) is to go to
autozone, pepboys, etc and go get a test light (under $10). It
looks like a flashlight with a needle and has a ground wire. All
you do is have someone sit in your car and put it in reverse (make
sure they have the brake on…lol) and then you touch the needle
part to all the terminals. Whichever one lights up the light in
the test light is your alt 12v (only comes on when in reverse). If
the light in your test light comes on at any other time OTHER than
when the car is in reverse, that is NOT your reverse light. For
the ground; just ground it anywhere you can find a good ground
(unbolt a bolt and ground it underneath). HTH.–

Hi, I have a 1999 S type and I’ve looked through the wiring diagram
and it states the the reserve light wire on the passengers rear
light unit is the BLACK / GREEN wire. But there is no ground in
that plug as both rear light units are earthed via the rear
electronic control unit which is in the boot on the drivers side by
the manual fuel release wire, These means you will have to earth
your camera via the body. In the photo you posted theres a bolt by
connecting the black wire to that should earth the camera.

Hope this helps.–

Ok… so this means that the only way I can connect my camera to
the reverse light is that if I run the wire to the PASSENGER
side??? or is it the same wire on the drivers side of the car??

Please LMK ASAP

thanks,

Paul

You really should get a test light. It will take you all of 30
seconds to figure out which wire you should use. Even if there
were 2 wires that somehow each controlled 1 reverse light each, you
only need the power from 1 of those wires (irrespective of if the
light is burnt out). Hence a test light would solve your dilemma
real quick. Had you bought one yesterday you would have been
done :-P–

Hi all, I too am installing a rear view camera. I think at this point in time that connecting to the black/green wire will not work.
I have connected the positive to that wire and tried a separate earth and it did not work. When I connect to battery positive it will work. The black/green wire seems correct but will not work when connected to it.

If anyone has installed a rear view camera and it is working on the S-type please let me know how you achieved it.
Cheers, Brian.

Hi, it’s me again. So the saga of the rear view camera. The S-type has negative switching with positive going to the rear bulbs all the time. If you connect to the reverse light cable it will not work even with a separate earth. I eventually connected the positive to fuse 14 in the rear fuse box. Camera now comes on when ignition is switched on.
If anyone has a better way of getting this thing to work please let me know.
Cheers, Brian.
