[s-type] Rear Plate Lights

Just took it in for Out of Province Inspection. It failed due to
non function of rear plate lights. The bulbs are OK. It is only
getting 0.03 volts. To rectify this, I assume I have to remove the
chrome trim piece to get at the sockets for the bulbs (I have not
done this before as the trunk release fixed itself upon relocating
here). It appears to be held in place by 2 plastic pins under the
light lenses. How do I remove the piece without breaking the pins
and if I do break them, how to fix? They appear to be similar to
the ones for the door panels and rocker panels (which I have spares
for) but how would I get the double head back in the trim piece and
how to pry it all apart? Much thanks in advance.–

Or: is it possible to get the bulb sockets out without removing
the whole piece? They are fragile and severely craked and mildly
burnt.–

JTIS has them under Daytime Running Lamps and says the license
plate lamps are illuminated by the REM. That’s rear electronic
module. Presumably you should be getting 12 volts out of it to that
circuit.
We discussed trunk buttons back in March and at that time I wrote
this:
‘‘Ok, I love a challenge, so I took my trunk lid inside cover partly
down to have a look. If you remove the license plate light clear
plastic covers, inside there are two white plastic button heads
like 3/4 of a pie in shape. They are expansion pins pushed through
to the inside of the trunk. I think you have to squeeze them from
the inside with pliers to get them out. Then the chrome cover
should come off without prying. Then you can get at the screws
holding the rest on.
Let me know if this is correct, as I did not actually try it.
I could not find this in the JTIS manual either.’’

In frustration I called Jaguar. Have resolved both the trunk
release and plate light gremlins. Where the wiring harness goes
around the trunk hinge, repeated flexing has damaged the wiring.
By moving it around, I can get trunk release and lights to operate
intermittently. Unfortunately, I am not flexible enough to crawl
in there, untape it and repair the wiring so someone is going to
make some money off me.–

Hi Rex,
How did you fix the grounding issue with the rear ECU?
My car has probably the same problem, I replaced the rear ECU
but still no working RH turn light and RH rear light.
Also failed the inspection due to the non-functioning turn
light.

Best regards,

Marco–

Jag suggested a broken wire where the harness follows the trunk
hinge but I found nothing. Took it to local shop and they fixed it
in a matter of minutes. Do not know what they did. Cost me $20.–
