[s-type] Security System & Windows

Gents,

We have a problem with either the security system and/ or
the windows on the late 2004 S type of Swmbo.
The car was parked up for nearly 6 weeks whilst we were
away on holiday. The problem that has arisen is this.

After locking, the lights flash, doors lock all as normal.
After about 30 seconds, lights flash, it unlocks and all 4
window roll down. Everything sets OK when locking the car
with the key. Strangely, it will open OK with the fob. We
had the car returned to us after we’d landed and my
thoughts about what to do next are as follows:-. The
battery was low and the parking service jumped the car
causing the problem, the battery is low anyway and either
needs charging or replacing, or I disconnect the battery
for about 30 mins or so and see what that achieves.

All replies and suggestions welcome

Regards

Hi, you have to star from the easier to the complex solutions
if the battery voltage is low and even charging it still down
I recommend you to change it and be careful to do it with the
right specifications if you are going to do it by yourself.
Then you have to reprogram the system (windows, park brake
etc) but be sure that you have the code with you, the central
console is going to ask for it to continue. Try this and then
you can post the results, regards.–

Hi, and thanks for the reply.

OK, so am back home for a week, the sun is out here in the
UK, so I have time to look at 'the boss’s s-type.

Tried the easy things first per your suggestion. Battery
voltage at rest was 12*4 volts, ok-ish I think. Checked
battery cells next, 4 showing low electrolyte, so topped
up, checked voltage at rest, now risen to 13 volts. Started
engine and set revs to approx 1500, voltage now risen to a
little under 15, so would think that is OK if a tad high.
Most of these readings were taken with an el cheapo meter
as the all singing, all dancing digital one went T.U.

We will see if this does anything to cure the self
unlocking/window roll down game it seems to like playing.

Apologies for the
late reply, but I’ve been working away from home with
either limited time or internet access

Thanx once again,

Regards

Gents,
It’s now been a few weeks since my original post and
after the P.M. suggestion to top up the cells, I’m going to
call it a tentative fix of it’s misbehaviour as it hasn’t
returned ( yet )

Initially I think I was worrying about it being a major
thing to fix, so with the advice given both on and off
forum, I started with the easiest stuff first. Guess the
mantra should always be, go back to basics and check them
out first, then start to move up the repair ‘ladder’.

As always Gents, thanx for the help and advice.

Regards

Steve.–
