Have 2001 4.0 s type with about 26,000 miles in Boston area. Car
was purchased in Sept. of 2000. Had no problems until 3-4 months
ago when car engine just stops while driving. Happened to dealer
service personnel or I am sure they never would have beleived me.
Dealer had car for 1 week. No codes came up on the computer. Car
returned to me on Friday night. Monday morning car stalled again
and after coasting for a minute or so was able to start it. Back to
dealer for three weeks. They thought it was ok. Not so. Has
happened three times in last three weeks. Once with my 11 and 6
year old grandchildren in the car on a very busy RT 128 in a
pouring rain storm. Scary. No codes ever come up on the computer.
Car always had between 1/2 and full tank of gas. Jaguar corporate
person to see car tomorrow. Has anyone else had this problem. My
wife is afraid to drive the car, other than locally. It can not be
relied on and,so far, the service people do not know what is the
problem.–

this has come up on the X300 list on XJ8s. often caused by dirty throtle
body.
insist and make noise about it thru Jaguar Customer Service if the dealer
can’t solve it. they shouldnt’ keep a car for week and not find anything
wrong…
problem nowadays is that many mechanics… oops… service technicians…
can’t troubleshoot anything unless teh computer tells them what to do.
search the X300 forum archives for info since it’s the same engine as on the
XJ8.
