In the Colonies the term ‘‘clip’’ in driving parlance is
sometimes in reference to a particular type of collision
fraud, it is in reference to (in our right side of the road
driving) when a motor vehicle in the curb lane hides in
the ‘‘blind spot’’ of a motorist in the lane to the left of
them, maintains the spot in anticipation of the driver to
the lt. changing into the lane on the right, as the l
driver begins to change lanes, the one hiding accelerates
and gets side swiped. It’s a scam to make money from the
other drivers car insurance policy. In my case (as I
preach, protect your self from a clip, always check by truning
truning your head and checking the rear view mirrors, I
keep my inside center mirror trained out the left rear of
my car, plus I also use the outside rear view mirror
(objects are closer than than they look).
In my case scenario I was in the curb lane an overwide
one, toeing the line in my lane (aim high in steering) I
was in the area that I grew up in and on the way to a
birthday party for a 5 year old and had a passenger
reclining in his seat, driving nice and easy does it,
Sunday afternoon, nary a car on the road. I was in the curb
lane for easily 1/3 of a mile after exiting the freeway, gps
gps on and the last announcement was turn right in 600
feet, and that was before I crossed the closest
intersection, I was looking ahead and to my right, readying
for the turn in, (barrier from main road to the residential
area)at aprox 100ft I began my turn signal and the
positioning closer to the curb to make the turn smooth and
easy, down to 10 mph. The curb has gutter apron of
concrete 18’’ in width, and flush with the roadway, slightly
angled to curb the effluent and guide it to the storm
drain. I’m looking ahead and to the right and in my inside rvm
rvm see a flash of a vehicle approaching at speed, at this
juncture my rt fr tire is 27’’ away from the apron, When the
WRX Subaru hit my tire tread area it bounced spiraling to
the right motion helped by its chassis contacting the high
curb, it went airbourne, turned 2.5 barrel rolls to the
right, his lt fr tire denting in my wing, as he became
airborne, a hint of strafe but not really, coming up from
beneath the lip of my fender it landed on its roof, all
this happened in aprx 40’of forward travel, the 23 yo exited
through his passenger window and scraped his arms in
scurry, jumped to his feet jubilant. His parents were at
the scene in about 8 minutes, there before the gendarmes,
dear mom kept getting her behind in front of my cell
camera, she ways dressed and ready for her Hollywood close
up, Their address was 5 miles away, happily I got a few
pics that show my positioning in, and also aprox 9’’ skidmark
skidmark made when my tire was hit it stopped rotation. I j
just let it roll as he took to the air. So
I got the police report, funny, it showed equidistant
lanes, and contained the statement of my contact buddy,
that he was going slow in the curb lane and that he saw my turn
turn flasher on, cont.–
