While disassembling all to go through everything, refurbish and restore my new (to me) S1 XJ6, removing the fan and clutch left me a bit surprised.
Forgot how heavy those damn units are. Wow.
How much hp does it steal?
seems like such a load on the engine, no? Augment pump bearing wear?
Yes I have gone through the archives, nothing really answered my thoughts.
I am really leaning towards replacing with electric. 16", about 3000rpm
There is only about 3.5 inches there to do so. May replace water pump too “while I’m there” although it feels fine.
Anyway, I see various electric fan units available, from $50 to $150…
Yeah I’ve read of Hayden mention within archives, but it is not necessary to spend a fortune.
I did it on my 5.3 XJS years ago without a problem ever, not some big name brand.
Anyone have recommendation?
Should I even replace it at all?
I’ve seen the sticky whatever note here too listing some brands but wished to probe the recent crowd.
