In reply to a message from Pete55Tbird sent Tue 12 Sep 2006:

It looks like he wants to sell it pretty badly and he is getting
grumpy about tire kickers. I sent him a note of moral support.

I listed my MGB on Craig’s list and got a lot of nibbles. My
eventual buyer could not remember where he heard of my car, he
looks at all the lists.

Craig’s list is interesting, if you do not know about it and you
like looking at car advertisements. They are organized by
geographical area, and then you can search for ‘‘jaguar’’ in
the ‘‘cars and trucks’’ section. The ads are free and the sellers
are often unsophisticated. Right now the SF site shows an '87 VDP
for sale for $1. described as ‘‘totaled’’ but the photo just shows
the front end pushed in. If you wanted a nice 4.2 efi engine this
would be it. $1, how can you loose? the rear axle is $800 to any
hot rod shop.
You can not search for ‘‘196* jaguar’’ like on Ebay, so right now you
get 269 jaguars for sale. That includes a Honda Accord where the
word Jaguar is in the description, and a '32 Ford roadster with a
jag axle, so be patient.
If you find an advertisement that seems meritorious, send the
seller a note and tell them to advertise on Jag-Lovers… (plug)

While I agree that there are some real bargains from time to time on
craigslist, the unsophisticated nature of buyers and sellers there
is, oftentimes, frustrating. Many desirable cars are greatly over
priced, especially anything with a Jaguar name plate on it. Cars with
“issues” can be a good deal or not, totally dependent upon the
seller. I look every day, and find, at most, two cars to see a year.
While craigslist might not be the best for automobiles, things like
exercise equipment, boats, and the “free” category are often gold
mines of good deals.
