Terald,
Hello and welcome. If the fuel is coming out of the
holes where the Starting carb (or ‘‘Hisser’’ as it is often
referred to) normally draws its air then there are a few
things to check
The front Float is sunk
The front needle valve isn’t closing properly
the front Bowl isn’t venting because either the washers
are in the wrong order or the vent pipe is clogged.
If you’ve had the top off the float chamber then you
probably got the bits in the wrong order. The correct order
of assembly is (from the bottom up) Cap, vent washer,
banjo, plain washer, central nut. The hisser is normally
mounted on the front carb, so it is the front float chamber
that needs attention.
Did the car run until recently? I would suggest taking the
top off the float chamber, checking that the float is
actually floating, that there is no debris in the valve
seat, that the valve actuator isn’t binding, and that the
float level is correctly adjusted, cleaning out the drain
tube with a bit of soft wire, and reassembling.
If the fuel is coming out of the hisser somewhere other
than the hisser intake then none of the above will make any
difference.
