I just can’t resist. Here is the quick answer. I haven’t
done it ever before, but I just read how to remove the
jets on an S-type and it will be about the same for 340’s.
The text start with:
Remove the picnic tray
Remove the centre dash panel (instrument panel)
…
So, removing your instrument panel and maybe some
wiring and heating tubing is the obvious answer.
Now why doesn’t this work, because I want to remove
the jets in a couple of days?
Regards,
Frank Benschop.
Well, I’ve crawled up, around, and down, but I still have not
discovered the access point. I need to tighten the jets to
the car body. Not one of my several MKII books and repair
manuals offers a hint.
OK, I give up. Flame me, shame me, but just let me in on the secret.

By the way, have you seen the latest mailing from XK’s unlimited?
For the MK II, they have a great offering of shocks, front end
rebuild kits and brake cylinder kits. (They’ve also entered the world
of Land Rover. )
that’s all for now

Thad,
I’m afraid it is kinda one of the worst jobs, I only got at mine when i had the
whole dash out and the windscreen was out after the resparay. The wiper
mechanism was out which did make them easier to reach.
Really, you remove dash top, dash sides, heater tubing to the screen, and really
the rest demends on how agile (ie big) you fingers are. They are held on below
by butterfly nuts, and probably rusted too!
Take care

And when you get an answer, please share it. I have given up on how to
get to the jets on my S-Type. The PO obviously removed them; purchased
new ones and haven’t a clue. Perhaps the car is fabricated around them!

Richard,
I replaced the jets in my ‘S’ type about a month ago. It sure makes the
car go faster. This was the wife’s comment the day after I spent 6
hours disassembling and reassembling the dash. Access to the wing nuts
holding the jets in place is blocked by the glove box on one side and
the speedometer on the other (for LHD at least). If you’ve the manual
then follow the procedure in Section N on removing the dash and glove
box. I could fax to you this section if you do not have it.
You might gain access to these nuts by removing the parcel shelf, then
pry out the ducting for the heater. You will need a tool to grasp the
nuts that has a circa 30 cm long hand. I think removing the dash is
easier.
Lastly, remember to flush the lines before attach them to the jets.
