[Saloon-lovers] Help - Window is stuck down - 420G

Hi Guys and Gals,

I finally got my 420G to the point that I felt good about having passengers
ride with me. I fitted a new exhaust, fixed my headers (thanks to the group)
and completed various other tasks. Now, my drivers (left) side window is
stuck down. It is not the switch because I bypassed it. I can hear the motor
click, but it will not turn. I hope it is just binding. If I could just get
it up I will be OK as winter is approaching. However, I do not know how to
do this. I see in my manual that a special tool is needed. Do any of you
know of anything else I can use in place of this tool. Is the bottom of the
winding screw slotted, or does it accept a socket or allen wrench?

Chris,
In the trunk there should be a long handle that look a lot like a lug wrench
except that it has a screwdriver tip on the end. This goes into the door on
the underside and will allow you to roll the window up manually. The tool
should be mounted via clips on the right side of the trunk, under the tool
box and behind the spare tire. Attached is a link to the page from the parts
manual of the tools kit. Number 21 is the tool you’re looking for. Happy
hunting!

Hi

I have had this problem with one of my windows on my 420G. The passenger
side window used to get stuck in down position. I usually got it up by
open up the inside door panel and nock on the mechanism with the back of a
screwdriver. Sounds to easy , but it worked for me. Last summer i took
the hole mechanism out and cleaned it, greased it and put it back. Haven’t
had any problems since. I have the original tool to manually wind the
window up, but i find it difficult to use it. If you manage to align it,
it takes a lot of turns to get the window up. It is also possible to use a
long thin flat screwdriver.

Thanks for the advice. The panel is off and I have tired assisting it to no
avail. I also tried a long thin screwdriver, but I cannot get it aligned
with the screw post. Would it help things if I removed the mounting ‘box’ at
the bottom?

You might try pressing the window switch and slamming the door at the same
time. It worked on my xjs.
