My '61 Mk II had the horn wired to a switch under the dash
when I bought it. I am trying to fix is back to original
with the horn ring on the steering wheel.
There is continuity between the horn button on the inner
steering column and the slip ring at the base of the column,
but when I connect the purple-black horn wire to the contact
(slip ring) the horn blows continuously. It is positive
ground.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Better yet, how
do you do it correctly?

There must be a ground short somewhere. Check the slip ring,
and horn ring to make sure they do not have continuity to
ground.
I found that getting the slip ring set up was very difficult
as slight movements of the steering column upset the ‘‘apple
cart’’ easily. It is very easy to bend the copper contacts out
of position.
Best of luck,
