[Saloon-lovers] Mk 2 floorcarpet

Hello all jaglovers!
I resently bought an mk 2 1965.It was a barnfound.The
owner bought it to his wife 1975,Hi kept it in a barn for
30 years.Last week I heard about this jag,and it was love
at the first moment. The prize was 15000 swedish
crowns(about.2000Us dollars)I dont know anything about jag
prizes, but I think it was not to high. The car is complet
and only two small rustholes in the floor (drivers
side).Colour is very bad and some small bumbs in the
body.leader is not brooken but very dry.How to fix that?
Floorcarpet and the felt under carpet has been a home for
rats in 30 years ,so if someone can tell me wear I can buy
floorcarpet for this car, used one is no problem.
Engin is 2,4 original but it was changed to an 3,4 in the
early 70’'s. I can turn engine around whiteout problem, it
was still oil and antifrezliquid in it.
I need some advice how to planing the resauration. Thanks–

Hasse I had a little trouble following but I am sure your English
is better than my Sweedish. If you use the search archives on Jag
lovers you should answer your questions. The engine is your call
and with fuel prices as they are it might be wise to consider it.
You can also look at the vendor list here to gain an Idea of where
to obtain parts–do not buy used carpet–in a MK2 a lot is glued
down and will be useless. Good luck–

Hi Hasse, and welcome. If the leather is at all salveagable, then
either leatherique, or www.lederzentrum.ch offer products to soften
and freshen the car. Respraying and softening the leather will cost
in the range of 250 GBP. A set of carpets custom made for the car
will run in the order of 200 GBP.

Now for the bad news. There are more than 2 rustholes in the floor,
and bubbles in the paint is generally a bad sign.

The worst news is that you’ve already fallen in love with it. Love
is like that.

I think what Hasse means there a small dents in the body, which if
thats all there is, is good.

Go for it Hasse, I should not be the only person whose life is
controlled by my Jag.

Welcome in the party Hasse.
I don’t know in your country but in Great Britain you’ll find a lot
of spares (SC Parts, David Manners, etc.) and they have quite all
the spares you’ll be needing.
Don’t run for perfection at a glance, because you’ll see that other
problems will came out as soon as you will start to use the car
daily but, the more you’ll love the car, the less those problems
will turn you sad.
Good luck and keep loving your new cat.

Hej Hasse,

Sounds like a bargain. 15000SEK is a good price for a Mk2
project in Sweden. I recently bought a 420 that’s probably
in a similar condition. The leather is very dry but
hopefully not destroyed and the carpets are rotten. The only
thing I’ve done with the leather so far is cleaning with
soapwater. Didn’t take many minutes to get from disgusting
to rather dirty. It will need some more aggressive cleaning
and something to soften the leather.
The carpets has been dried and put in storage. Most of them
wont be usable but I’m keeping them if I need templates.
There’s a lot of other work to do before I buy new carpets.

As a complement to jag-lovers I recommend a visit to the
Swedish Jaguar Club’s homepage. ( http://jaguarklubben.se/
). Ask a few questions at the forum and you’ll get plenty of
information regarding local dealers.–
