[Saloon-lovers] MK2 Front Brake upgrade Coopers or Series three calipers

Hello,

I want to upgrade my front calipers on my MK2.

My first option is to use the complete 420 (might be 420G which
ever fits straight into the MK2) front end with the three pot
calipers, I dont know if I can fit a vented disc though. I already
have this front end complete with variamatic power steering unit.

My next option is to install a Cooper Craft four pot kit with
vented disc.

My last option is to fit a series three XJ6 caliper and modify
series three vented disc’s to fit. This has been done by a bloke in
Australia. Has anyone done this conversion? Was it as simple as it
sounds. Can I still use 15’’ wheels?

Basically I am after some opinions from people who have done one of
these conversions so I can try an make up my mind on which one is
the best.

Thanks–

If you have the 420 front end with varamatic steering then put
that into the MK2. If you want vented discs then look to
Series I V12 XJ12 and Series 3 E-type for parts,they have the
spacers that fit between caliper halves and run the vented
discs.I may have some spacers.
Coopercraft make a very good product that just bolts up.–

Hello Aussie240,

Take a look in the archives, all of the issues of using the S3 XJ
brakes are covered. There are interference problems and steering
arm issues with the S3 upright. They can be solved with machine
work and spacers, or different wheels. The main reason to do this
is to get the larger stub axle and reduce flex on a track car. The
stock brakes in good condition are fine for a road car.
