As far s I remember, when my father ordered our 1963 3.8
MK2 for overseas delivery, Cinturato’s were not an option
on the order form. The car came with Dunlop RS5’s. My
father did run Cinturato’s as the second set on the car,
circa 1966.–

My recollection is that in 1965 the S Type came with Dunlop
RS5 tires and Dunlop SP41 tires were optional which is what
came on our 3.8S. They promptly wore out at 16,000 miles
and were replaced with another set that promptly wore out at
16,000 and these were replaced with Michelins that ran close
to 40,000. Wish there were more tire choices in 185X15 or
195X15 than the current limited and expensive choices now.–

I remember my father saying of the sp41 tires (on a
420g) ‘‘Those weren’t tires, they were short term rim
protectors’’. This would have been late '60s, early '70s.

Hi there are lots of choices of tyres in 185VR15 http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/jaguar-mk2

there is also a 180HR15 XAS on there that is probably the best tyre for a MK2. I had them on a Daimler V8 they were fabulous, and they are extremely good value, specially when you consider carriage iis mostly free.

I wonder if this is of interest https://scontent-lht6-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/12295419_1014007515332625_5952073375490305612_n.jpg?oh=c7eacdc1c15c72cd37eaec57cb2931c8&oe=598D60F1

Our 1963 3.8 MK2 was delivered with RS5’s, when they wore out my father used Cinturato’s then moved to the XAS in the late 60’s…I got the car in 1976 and continued to use Michelin’s until 1985, when I sold the car.

I found the XAS fantic
