Thanks Dave,

I will look at the sites you kindly provided. The price here is high but
this is for stainless spokes (USA made Dyaton). I believe that the chrome
type do not last as long. It would be interesting to findout what the price
of Dyton wheels are in USA.
Quick calculation: for a set of four 18042.22= $AUS1600
splines: $AUS 532
total: $AUS 2133
Plus transport costs and duty or tax.

I called the supplier in melbourne to get the current price and this is what
is on offer:
a. Dayton stainless spokes, chrome wheels : $AUS 485 each
b. splines : $175 each
c. knock-ons: $90 each
Total: $3000 :-((

OUTRAGEOUS!!!

Anyone in USA have a price for stainless steel spoke wheels?

Regards
Ned

Does anyone know roughly what it’s worth to get wire wheels and the hubs
to suit ?

Ned,

why don’t you shop around for wheels over here in the UK. If I recall, they
are around UK 180 each for wheels and 60 for the splined hubs.

As fas as UK suppliers are concerned - check out the following web sites
and ask for a quote:

Dave,
British Wire Wheel lists the Dayton knock-off wire wheel sets at $1500
for E-Types and early sedans thru XJ12 abd XJS, $1655 for the XK120 - 150.
The package includes 4 hubs, 4 chrome whire wheels (stainless spokes),
4 knock - offs, and a hammer. They are not original but are 72 spokes.

Ned,

I am sure that the Wire Wheels currently being offered by the UK supplier
guys all have Stainless Steel spokes - ask the question. I also believe
that most of them are made in India because the chroming quality is
apparently much higher there compared to the UK.

Regards,

With all the “confusion” that seems to exist about VAT etc, here’s how
it will work out:

Assume that a) the payment is made by credit card b) they are for export
to the US c) the US dollar/Pound Sterling rate is $1.60/Pound and d) the
prices shown above are ex-VAT and do not include shipping.

Total cost will be 965.40 + Shipping

Lets assume shipping is 100 pounds

Total cost is 1065.40 pounds

This equates to $1704.64 at the stated exchange rate.

You should be told that your credit card will be debited with that value
in pounds. Note that you should NOT see any charge for VAT. If they try
to so do, question it. David Manners won’t (probably) want to get
involved in currency exchanges

When your credit card bill arrives the line item will actually show the
value above in the currency local to the transactioncalculated at the
rate of exchange valid at the time of the transaction: a reputable
supplier will not make a hit on the account until the kit is ready to
ship which means that they will not have your payment before the goods
leaves them… BUT the final number may be different for the reason
I’ve given above. You may even find that the exchange rate has varied to
your advantage, but then again you may not!

Hope this helps…

Rob,

roughly assuming the shipment is approx 50-70 kilos in weight.

                        Manners Robey

USA 180 120

AUS 300 200

Does that blow it for for the UK guys ?

If you need to get a firm quote - email them directly.

Dave>Hi Dave,

I think the #/$ is about 1.5 so it sounds real close, shipping is next
thing to factor in.
