Hello Chaps…
I have a noise coming from the rear of my car that sounds like a bearing
starting to go bad. I’m going to replace the bearings and races and would
like to know if there are any caveats to the job that I should know about
before I start. Many thanks!
Best regards

Hi Jim,
You don’t say which Jag, is it the MK2 or the Sovereign.
I’ve only experience of the MK2. You definitely need the correct
rear hub puller, they can be nightmare to remove if they have’nt
been off for a few years. A tip which made the second hub (after
I really struggled to remove the first!) to come off “fairly” easily
was to heat the centre of the hub (not the axle shaft) first before
applying the puller. Once the hub has been removed the rest is fairly
straightforward, the manual recommends another special tool to remove
the axle shaft but in reality, with the nut on, and a pair of molegrips
on the nut, a sharp blow removes the axle shaft. You will need new oil
seals as well as these get damaged removing them. The only other thing
really is to keep a note of the shims on the calipers and the axle
cover plate.
Hope this helps

Oops…Sorry, I should have indicated that this was for the MK II.
Allan, thanks for the heads up on the hub puller…I have a couple of
various sizes and I hope one of them will do the job.
