Could somebody tell me what colour is the interior of the boot on a Mark
5.The one am putting together( at last) was originally painted black, I have
painted the car cream ,What color are the panels and floor of the boot? I
don’t know if all boot interiors were black or were body colour.

My Mk IV which has a similar boot to the MK V has the interior panels of the
boot painted black including the floor which is two panels, one that covers
the rear axle and one the covers the gas tank. The tooltray cover is the
exterior car color.
How do I know? My DHC and saloon were both taken apart … the original
body and interior boot colors were under the chrome strips…both cars
were originally gunmetal gray per the JDHT certificates and gray paint was
under the chrome strips and hinges of the boot cover (lid) and tool tray,
but not under the chrome strips of the boot floor…they were black.
I suspect that the body paint scheme on the boot lid and tool tray cover was
in part in keeping the body color continuous when the open position was sued
when luggage wouldn’t all fit in the closed boot. The MK IV has fittings for
straps to hold down “stuff” in the open position to use hold down straps.
Both cars were in storage for 20 plus years until I bought them 14 months
ago. There’s all kinds of evidence or what parts were body paint (gray) and
what parts basic black in the boot area and elsewhere on the cars.
