I always go to 26 psi on my Mark V with 6.50-16 bias ply.
Too low or too high and they squeal on turns.–

I used to have a girlfriend that did that.

Interesting you have found that. I presume the squealing is caused by the tyre
beginning to slide. Too low a pressure and most of the contact/pressure will be
at the edges of the tyre and too much will mean the contact patch will be
mostly in the centre. It is normal racing practice to check for maximum contact
by measuring tyre temperatures immediately after a good run and look for
differences between the edges and the centre. The closer they are to being
equal, the greater the chance you have achieved the widest possible contact
patch.

The above, of course, assumes that camber has already been optimised as this
also plays a major role in maximising rubber in contact with the road.–
