I think you will find that the headlamp switch has 4 positions

There are a lot of interesting pictures on that link… mainly
of MK Vs.

I did like the MK V with 18’’ wire wheels which seem to suit
it. I think one of Sir Bill’s early Mk V mock ups had 18’’
wires.

There were a couple with P 100 headlamps. One looked good as
they had been aesthetically been positioned closer to the
centre line of the car , where-as the other had them too far
apart, presumably placed in the same position as the standard
MK V lamps , a little too ‘inspired by Pierce Arrow’ effect.

What has puzzled me looking at pictures of MK Vs, is that on
saloons the chrome waist strip follows a clear line straight
along the side of the car.

But on DHCs from the A pillar forward , along the bonnet side
it slopes downward with a bit of a ’ Concorde taking off look’

Does anyone know a reason why this was done. Personally I
prefer the line of the saloon strip.–

The four position headlight switch may have been used on
some other Jaguar models, but not Mark V. The fog light
switch on Mark V is to the left of the cigar lighter, and
the fog lights only work when the headlamp switch is in side
light position.

With the Mark V grille being wider than the Mark IV, the
P100s don’t really work out all that well. I recall a
picture in Skilleter’s Saloon Cars of Lyons trying it on a
mockup. Ultimately I think he got it right.

Ed, I don’t see what you are referring to about the waist
line chrome. The bonnet and A pillar pieces are identical on
all Mark Vs. The bonnet piece is straight. The A pillar
piece gets wider at the rear end where it meets the wider
door piece. The pictures you saw may be an optical illusion,
or incorrectly restored cars.–

narrow ones being on 1 1/2 litre and 2 1/2 litre cars. The
wider on 3 1/2 litre.

The MK V had the same width grill on both 2 1/2 and 3 1/2
litre and presumably would also on the MK V 1 1/2 litre if the
ship carrying the whole production run to USA hadn’t sunk mid
Atlantic.

Mk Vgriles are distinguished by having different shaped cut
outs at the bottom of each side and vanes with ribs down the
centre.

If you hav e a scroll through the pics on the link given ,
there arenuerous shots of MK V DHC [ and saloons .
While one could place a ruler along the chrome side strip on
a saloon one can’t on the DHC, but a big margin.

I can only assume the DHC had a higher scuttle than the
saloon. This affect is certainly not apparent in MK IV DHCs.

There is some precedent in that SS1 Airlines had a higher
bonnet line than the rest of the range. Although I don’t know
the reason.

One of the mofified MK Vs shown on the link has had the P100s
moved closer and the effect is much better Possibly achieved by
just moving them forward and inch or so.

But then there are really ending up with a MK IV with
independent front end.FRom my closish observations the MK IV had 2 width grille, the
