I am prepping to send the drivers seat base to an upholsterer to remove the cover, replace foam / hessian and then re-fit. Said upholsterer has explained the wire springing can sag also but no matter, he has a stock of good bases he can transplant the cover to.
Being a clever old hector, and so as not to be without a seat, I bought a cheap (hole in the leather, good springing) seat base as a stopgap should it be needed during the week or so my seat will be away. It doesn’t fit, even though definitely off a MK2 – guessing there was a change in the design of the wire spring frame at some point – mine is 1966. The difference is the shape of the wire underframe – images hopefully show. Can anybody illuminate matters?
The wire frame under the existing seat has right angle bends towards the front edge which ensure a snug feat in the seat frame; the ‘new’ one has different shapes to the wire frame and is slightly bigger.
The Daimler 2.5 V8 was different to the mk2. More like a cross between a mk2 and s type. 420 was the same as s type, and the mk 10 and 420 g much much bigger.
