Series s1 xj6 switch back throttle linkage

My wiring is fortunately mostly original and in not to bad shape except some hard spots in engine bay and snipped ends.

That said, i believe this must be kickdown switch, located at rear of throttle linkage near firewall?

One wire (black/red) appears to be connected, going back behind within transmission tunnel.

The other green is snipped.

Where does it go?

Thank you!

If it is the kickdown switch, Demian - the green wire should go to the kickdown solenoid…?

But in all transmission questions - the model fitted should be confirmed for proper response. That said; all boxes have built-in downshift responses to pedal movement - just like a manual box driver downshift to get better acceleration. ie, the boxes senses, by the pedal position compared to engine rpms and road speed, that downshift is required.

However, on some models a specific downshift solenoid is fitted, to force downshift when the pedal is floored. Otherwise, while dawdling around at 15 mph, pushing the pedal some way, the box will downshift - and the PO may have been satisfied with that. And disabled the kickdown function - provided this is the kick-down switch…

Thank you Frank … appreciate greatly the experience and explanation.

Attached is image.
It is the kickdown.

Scored a wiring diagram.

Fyi, the green wire is wired in line with the horn … makes sense.Seems to want to go that direction naturally how it was snipped.

but why?! Such a hurried, botch job to pull the motor?
Damn people.

Kind regards

That’s the BW 12 kickdown switch all right, Demian…

The kickdown has of course no relation to the horn - but interconnections are made at convenient places for power supply. The kickdown solenoid is inside the gearbox, accessible by removing the oil pan - the connector terminal for it is at the left side of the left rear of the box body. Applying 12V to that terminal should give a distinctive click, signalling that the solenoid is acting…

The reason POs snip off wires, or indeed do anything, is usually shrouded in mystery - but not necessarily wanton. Its the lack of documentation of the changes made that creates problems…
