My X-type is 2003 Executive. I had though there is a possibility to open a small door to get skis in but now it looks like not. In Finland we seem to ski more than in England.
Jaguar, through Thule, makes a good roof rack for the X Type. It fits onto mounting points on the roof. All the Thule fittings for skis, bikes, ect will fit the rack. I have one for sale in the classifieds, but I’m a little far away for you.
Dear Grahame, thank you for your reply! I can see you are “overseas” from my home.
How do you find the AWD for the winter roads?
(I needed to google). AWD looks to mean allwheeldrive being different from 4WD fourwheeldrive. Actually I do not know the difference. To my understanding the first X-types were fourwheeldrive but due to some problems they changed also to frontwheeldrive like mine is. I have had Saabs, the last ones turbogriffins for 30 years and used to this in all also difficult Northern road conditions.
AWD, all wheel drive is different from 4WD in that AWD is constantly on while 4WD is selectable between 2WD and 4WD. 4WD is most often found in pick-up trucks, where the truck is normally in 2W rear drive, but can shift, automatically or manually, into 4WD. These trucks most often also have a transfer case that can be shifted into low or high range.
As far as I know, all the X Types built were AWD. My understanding is the power split is 60% rear and 40% front. I suspect yours is AWD, as I am not aware of Jag building any FWD cars. You should check your owners manual for towing instructions as it is critical not to tow an AWD car without raising all the wheels off the road.
