Smoother gearshifting with MTL?

The Moss box in my 140 (without OD), is quite stiff in operation when I drive off with a cold engine, and box, but after !0-15 mins the shifting is much softer and pleasant.
Will MTL make it nicer to use even when cold?

It will help: it isnt a panacea for that awful Moss gearbox, but it will make it shift a bit better.

What is in there now? SAE 90? It’s a common mistake in the US. If so, try SAE 30 or SAE10W30.

Sure, it will always be more stiff when cold than when warm, just like the engine will. Rob is probably right, just be sure that it has 30W inside and after the initial stiffness when cold it will shift just fine.

Excellent point, and a screw-up I saw/fixed many times, in my career.

Original spec is 30 wt motor oil…NON-detergent.

What do you look for on a can of oil to tell the difference between detergent and non-detergent? I use Valvoline 20-50 VR-1 Racing oil in my 3.8 since it has some zinc. Available from Amazon for half the price than the part stores.

And so does the Gulf 20-50 mineral oil. I was about to buy it at a parts store recently.
Amazon won´t ship oil to Sweden, or it would be prohibitivvely expensive.

It’ll say “non-detergent” right on the jug.
