Start up weird 1966 mark 10

HI

Just started up the car following a most frozen Winter. She started BUT had excessive revolutions and would not stop + oil pressure very high. Shut her off to be cautious and hopefully get a heads up regard this?

Thanks

B

Excessive revolutions , could be something sticking , from not being used , spray all the linkage with WD40
You say oil pressure very high , how high ?
If it’s still cold the oil may be a little thick !
On the good side it started , and you have oil pressure ,
I would check all the oils and water , then start her up and get her warm !
Ps , that’s if the excessive revolutions are not on the red line !

Big vacuum leak?..

Auxiliary carb? Don’t know if fitted to your car but if so, start engine then disconnect at otter switch (pull the wire off).

Hi… The revs are at approx. 25000 so not in the red, but certainly higher than a normal start up with choke. Additionally, not easing up… Oil pressure was between 40 & 60 & these might be reasonable readings if the desired throttle was at the 25000 range. But???

will take a look later and test this. Thx

Just needs to get it hot bearmax , dab the throttle now and again to increase the revs !

make sure the throttle plates are closed at idle…the MKX throttle mechanism is complicated, and a few things can cause high idle that wont fall, including loose, broken or missing return spring, and any part of the mechanism binding.

work the mechanism by hand

if it keeps doing it, take of the plenum and look up the carb throats, they should be closed at idle
