Very good advice if it’s your first experience. All it takes is a longer section of rod stock. Be sure to dull the sharp edges of the threads, then cover them of the with just enough aluminum duct tape that it’ll slide easily into the damper tubes.
One more bit of advice, Bob, wear an old shirt. Cover the wall behind the buffer and the floor in front with newspaper. Either wear nitrile gloves or have some heavy duty hand cleaner handy. Have a cold beer when you’re done. You’ve earned it. And enjoy that long hot shower.
(But why didn’t I think about covering what’s left of my hair? Hmmmm).
Edit: you really should also be wearing a mask. I confess to not having done so most times. The black stuff you blow out of your nose afterward can’t be healthy.
