I’m not familiar with the specifics of your model, but generally this is a result of something blocking the mechanism. It could be dirt and grime, or a torn seal.
The motors usually have a thermal cutout, the increased load causes the motor to heat up and the cutout trips. Once it’s cooled off the cutout resets, and the roof can be moved another increment.
Does yours move more the first time you hit the button, and the steps decrease after that?
I had the same problem with mine after the car had been standing unused for a few months. Repeatedly opening and closing the roof got it to increase the amount it would open each time until it opened fully. It has been OK ever since. I assumed that, as Andrew has suggested, dirt or hardened grease was causing the motor overload sensing to operate.
