Iam wrecking my 1990 and changing over the sunroof into my 1988 , will the assembly come out as a whole unit when the roof biscuit is removed ? Seems to me it would be easier to swap as a unit , the one in the 88 is not in good condition , rather than swapping bits i’d rather do the whole unit. Mark
I recently pulled the sunroof outer panel from my parts car to store as a spare. Fairly straightforward job if you know which fasteners secure what to what!
I managed to remove it without the aid of battery power or even the hand crank (seized). I ended up disassembling the retract mechanism cables and easing the roof back manually until I could reach the fasteners.
As far as I could see, unless you have some major issues with the retract/seal etc there would be no reason to swap out the entire mechanism, in fact it looks like a heckuva PIA and much more work.
Usually the panels rust out a bit …other than that I can see no reason to replace? Do you have other issues with yours?
