Switch Off all Circuits Before Removing Battery?

Hello. Novice here. I’m removing the batter from my 1984 XJS for the winter and notice a sticker that says to “Disconnect all circuits before removing battery”. I must admit that I don’t know what that means. Can I not simply remove the negative and then positive and pull it out?
Thank you.

Correction, it says “Switch off all circuits…”

I would suggest it is a precaution to ensure that when you connect the battery there isn’t an instant draw on the battery causing a possible spark?
If you have been charging the battery prior to fitting it may still be emmiting gas which is combustible.

Difficult to do if your car has a computer, or radio, with a “memory”. Or a door is open.
Or the trunk lid (boot) is open!

Pulled her out today, no problem.
