Thermostatic Switch

Jim, I am the second owner.

It was originally a New Jersey car, and apparently never driven in the winter. I bought it from the dealer who bought it from the owner’s estate.

And what Jaguar used to do.
My 86 XJ saloon had it by design as well.
The Aux fan is controlled and by the thermostatic switch and by the A/C.

Now you’ve got me wondering why my 83 wasn’t already wired that way.

There was no extra wire or unused connection hanging free at the compressor, and no extra wire from the thermostatic switch that did go where it wasn’t supposed to.

Edit: Maybe it is just one of Jaguar’s jokes on us to give owners something to talk about on forums in the future, forums that didn’t even exist at the time.

Maybe today’s Jaguar jokes will be discussed telepathically in the future?

83 was early HE, so my guess is Jaguar figured out a few things that needed addressing by the mid-80s.

With this design, my electric fan would ALWAYS be on if I turned on the climate control. So obviously they decided cooling at idle was a real issue, most probably in hot climates in the US.

Here in the Seattle area, I rarely need A/C. Much like the UK.

Dang!

And I thought that I’d hit onto the answer of some of Jaguar’s idiosyncrasies with my edit.
