Timing chain tensioner replace

Decided to replace the aftermarket timing chain tensioner after all the valuable commentary from our members. My original one is still is very good condition and will replace the Rolon purchased from the usuals during a rebuild. One part, #6029 - tab washer - appears to be NLA. Surely there must be an alternative to secure the small bolts rather than using a bent tab washer. Can anyone offer any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

It’s not NLA, assuming it’s for a 6 cyl. Not sure about the 12. But if so and you still have the old one you could just trim one out of heavy gauge sheet metal

I installed tons, in all manner of engines: I used hardened washers, torqued properly.

Never had a comeback on any of them.

Yes, 4.2. Its the tab washer retaining the adjuster plug on the side of the tensioner. The tab washer retaining the bolts of the tensioner to the block is still available but the very small tab washer securing the adjuster plug not. Paul, are you suggesting just to use a flat washer. Would certainly solve the issue of having a $2 part shipped to Canada for $27.

I don’t remember seeing such a thing on my original 3.8 tensioner. Unless the old tab cracked from being pried open I’d just reuse it and add red Loctite. It will never come loose.

Ultimately I’d replace it unless it looks impeccable and has zero piston/bore slop or substantial shoe wear. It’s a bit of a challenge to find a correct one but not unobtanium. I was shocked by how much my new lower chain stretched over 23k miles. The piston was protruding quite a bit.

A good quality hardened one, with blue Locktite.

They will never come loose.
