To prime or not to prime?

I sent Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett demo cassettes!

ā€¦ on how to prime oil pumps???

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Greetings All,

Cavitationā€¦

Cavitation is a suction side phenomenon. Basically, you are reducing the pressure below the boiling point of the liquid being pumped. As the vaporized liquid moves out of the reduced pressure zone, generally, this is the back side of the vanes of a centrifugal pump, the vapor bubbles implode with great violence. The implosion is violent enough to pit the impeller and results in a distinctive rattling sound. in extreme conditions, it can blow holes in the impeller. This most often happens with liquids with low boiling points, water, alcohols, etc. Motor oil would have to be incredibly hot and the absolute pressure extremely low to cavitate a positive displacement pump. Absent some sort of blockage on the suction side, like the pickup tube pressed against the bottom of the sump, you canā€™t cavitate an oil pump.

Thanks:,I was going to mention something similar, butā€¦ you did it better!
