Traction control

The Traction/ABS light on my 98 XK8 has started coming on occasionally for no apparent reason. It doesn’t relight after I shut down and restart, but will sometimes come on when I’m driving. Has anyone else had this experience and what was the cure?

Read the DTCs in the module!!! or…
Let the guessing begin!!!

The check engine light doesn’t come on. Do codes still come up?

The DTCs stored in the ECM have nothing to do with faults in the ABS. They are totally different modules. Sometimes a module has a network to another module and might tell a module to check others for faults. CAN bus modules often flag a DTC to another module but that is not the whole story.

The CHECK ENGINE is just that, CHECK ENGINE!! The ABS MIL is telling you to check ABS.

You will need Jaguar specific diagnostics to read Body or Chassis modules. ALL OBDII readers can talk to ENGINE modules but that is not what the problem is. The problem is with the ABS.

ABS will be C (Chassis) codes not P codes (for Powertrain)
