First I’d like to say THANK YOU to everyone that tried to help me out.
My cat is cranking again and damn it was a thrill to drive it again.
What was the fix, you ask???
It seems that the previous owner installed a rocker switch in the glove box.
This was an anti-thief device made to kill the starter.
It was well hidden on the roof of the glove box, and I guess putting stuff
in there jarred it
just enough to turn it into a "Hair Trigger. I guess a simple vibration
(Like shutting a door)
finally tripped it. I learned my lesson: I’ll never put stuff in the glove
box…
The mechanic was honest and only charged me $25 bucks for the fix, He seem
very honest,
and could’ve raped me in the price if he wanted to.
He said mine was the third one he’s seen with such a switch. It’s
definitely after market,
and installed so neat that you’ll never notice it by accident.
I suggest we ALL check or glove boxes
Brings back memories. Right after buying my Jag I was looking all around
under the dash an saw a switch hidden there. I flipped it back and forth an
could not find anything that it worked. Must have left it in the wrong
position because the next time I went to start the car nothing happened. After
checking everything I could think of and getting nowhere it dawned on me to
move that switch. Viola it started right up.Another Jag with a hidden kill
switch. Sorry I didn’t think of it when you posted.

My 90 Sovereign has a similar switch on the lower driver’s side kick panel, it
seems to have 3 positions. Not sure if this is aftermarket or factory-can
anyone shed some light on this item? I didn’t get any info on a factory alarm
system, but there appears to be a small red light directly in front of the
radio. Did the car come with any sort of transitters for the alarm and/or a
power lock mechanism? Are these still available?
