Transmission problem

I have a 2000 XJ LWB and the gear level wont go into drive without manually overriding it. At the same time this started, the washers stopped working and the electric mirrors also stopped adjusting. I have checked all fuses and the brake pedal switch. A local garage checked the solenoid on the gear lever and everything is working. The engine warning lamp is on and the fault code refers to a gearbox problem. The car drives fine but sport mode doesn’t work…anyone have any ideas?

Well, it would sure be helpful to know exactly what code you have, not that it “refers to a gearbox problem”.
Patient: “Doctor, my stomach hurts and I feel sick.”
Doctor: “Well, we have done tests and found that you are sick in your stomach!”

David,
You are on the wrong list. Your 2000 XJ is two generations newer than the Series I, II, and III XJ6s and XJ12s discussed on this list and has very few parts in common with our cars. I believe that you need to be on the X300 list.

Paul:
I think you were confused by the XJS question above. This is, I believe, the X-300 list!

What do you mean it won’t go into drive?

Do you mean it won’t come out of park without putting a rod down the hole?

Oops

sorry about that

So the body processor (above glovebox) is responsible for allowing the shiftier out of park and washers.

check fuse 7 under the left rear seat heal

Thanks Andy
I took it to a specialist and they diagnosed the body control module. Its fixed now!!!
