Transmission swaps- automatic to stick behind a 4.2 litre engine. What works?

I was thinking about putting a Jag 4.2 in something else, and wanted to have a standard trans behind it. Lots of 4.2’s out there in abandoned XJ6’s, but all seem to have automatics. You just cannot beat the sound of that engine with the right exhaust system on it.

I don’t believe Jaguar made many XJ’s with manual transmissions. Probably hard to come by. You might try after market specialists like Trans-Dapt to see if they make an adapter to mate your engine to another transmission.

Thanks I knew of trans step from my hot rod days and it might be worth a try I’m sure they might be able to come up with something if they don’t already have a pattern thanks again

T5 is a common swap and there are bell housings that will mate a T5 to the XK6 engine. Other small mods required but it’s an easy conversion.

be sure to get the world class T5 if you go that route

David Dwomby posts here from time to time in the XJ section. His xj was converted to a T5… check the archives and see some of the work in fixing a starter ring gear with information on the combination. I vaguely recall an adapter plate the BW bell housing.

A drilled pedal box… The point to drill seemngly available!!!
