Can anyone identify this gadget attached to the rear bumper of my X-Type 2.2d SE? It is simply stuck with a putty of sorts so looks like an aftermarket addition yet appears to be wired to the wiring loom inside the boot. My car does not have park distance sensors so it can’t be that. The two wires dangling below the bumper were not attached to anything and were simply tucked away under the bumper cover which I removed for a re-spray.

Are you sure your ‘bumper’ is original…maybe it is a reversing senor box and someone has had the rear end changed.
The other thing is if your car has a tow hitch …maybe for lighting or aux. battery charging…
…or MI5 are tracking you!

The thought had crossed my mind that maybe this is not the original bumper cover and the car used to have reverse sensors fitted. Maybe my local Jag dealer can tell me using the VIN number.
I doubt the car has ever had a tow hitch fitted… perhaps my dodgy past is catching up with me!
