Update on click and clacking valve

I wrote before about having the head rebuilt, and I swore all the valve clearances were correct before I installed the head. After a few miles engine developed clacking noise. I pulled the cam covers and found #3 cylinder exhaust valve had 0 clearance between cam and tappet. Removed cam for inspection, I assumed the shim had been dislodged. I was wrong, after putting it all back together there was still 0 clearance. Shim that I removed was .101", replaced with a shim .087 and clearance was restored.
Engine is running great, but I have a concern that something else is going on here. Time will tell if I have to pull the head to examine.

If they WERE correct, and now are not, the only explanation I can see is the valve has receded into the seat. I would keep a very close eye on clearances for a while, checking them often. If you’re lucky, it’s a one-time thing and will stabilize quickly. If not, you may have a problem…

Thanks Ray
That is exactly what I am thinking.
