I’d use this flag if I could
Yes, you want them strong. A leak can cause all sorts of problems.
Tempest… teapot.
Can we go back to being not so triggered by relatively inconsequential minutiae?
I thought the PUB site was to be used by those who want to indulge in conversation that many on these JagLovers sites find offensive, whether political in this case, or religious or racial etc etc…
Anyone on this open forum, should always appreciate that this is an INTERNATIONAL forum, and not a forum to promote your own - usually divisive - nationalistic nor political views…
So I am happy to see either a Ukrainian or Russian, or indeed USA flag, if that indeed is the home country of the person posting, and indeed that is useful information for those seeking help/advice or parts/repairs recommendations - but to use such flags to make a political statement/position is being DELIBERATELY PROVOCATIVE… And the UN flag, that’s just as bad - the UN has just become yet another politically biased organization, that does not represent a balanced/neutral position on anything anymore… Let’s keep these JagLovers sites for their intended purpose - a forum for shared enthusiasm of the Jaguar marque, and not a site for cheap and provocative political comments…
Was that you high school mascot? Twas mine.
I maintain that this was never an issue… Until it got made one.
Not in all the years that I’ve been here save for my upside down US flag, have I ever heard anybody bitch about what flag was used near an avatar.
Really.
Over the past year many companies, organizations and even government entities around the world have displayed the Ukrainian flag and/or the colors of that flag as an overt show of support for the country and people of Ukraine. There has been some pushback but the overall response has generally been positive.
Show of hands. How many here have approached those companies, organizations or government entities and lodged a complaint about their actions or told them they couldn’t/shouldn’t do so?
I’ll bite … which ‘National’ flag of our ancestors are we allowed to use?
Hi Roger. Respectfully. . .
This is indeed an international forum and there are flags from every country available to be appended to a user’s header. In the case of the Ukrainian flag is a show of support for that country being deliberately provocative or simply a small gesture of support.
A question: If someone lives in a country and displays that flag and I disagree with the policies of that country’s government or corporations headquartered in that country do I have the right to demand that user remove that flag. Say that country is ran by a dictator or denies women their rights or turns a blind eye to child labor or piracfy on the high seas. I’d argue no, but I’m pretty much a live and let live guy.
During World War II the U. S. issued a series of postage stamps showing the flags of the countries the Axis powers overran during the war. This was done not to be provocative but to increase public awareness and show our continuing support for those countries. They were popular and no one complained. As far as I know that was the first time a foreign flag was featured on any U. S. postage stamp. Have we now reached the point where everything we see that we disagree with is to be considered deliberately provocative wrong or out of line? I certainly hope not.

Okie dokie … I guess I’ll have to take my American Flag down … …
And in the case of someone not from Russia using a Russian flag to (potentiall) express support for their (illegal) invasion, which is what led to my original post? All good with that outside of the pub?
Where would you draw the line, or wouldn’t you?
None of this addresses the purpose of why the flag option is provided, though I am assuming my comments above as to its purpose are correct? @gunnar might wish to comment (or not ).
IMHO lots of false equivalence arguments going on here….
But then I don’t have a horse in this flag display race.
Probably someone I have on ignore, so I didn’t see it. And honestly it wouldn’t bother me if I did see it. Whoever it is is as entitled to their opinion as we are to ours; as long as it is expressed politely and sans a personal attack. I just don’t see this particular concern as being something worth losing sleep over.
And there you have it…the last time it happened. So why are you going there again?
What if the Avatar itself is offensive? Say somebody stupid enough to use a swastika?
Not sure…what country do you live in?
Are you asking me? Fine, let all the world see what a jerk the guy is. If he starts spewing rubbish one would expect from someone proudly displaying swastika, boot him. And remember, the swastika was a religious symbol long before the crazy corporal adopted it as a symbol of the nazi party.
Was that you lurking
It should be flagged of course.
Avatar definition: An avatar is a personalized graphical illustration that represents a computer user, or a character or alter ego that represents that user.
National flag definition: A national flag is a flag that represents and symbolizes a given nation. It is flown by the government of that nation, but usually can also be flown by its citizens.
As an aside, I’m not sure how people are coming to the conclusion that a national flag is a political statement. It doesn’t change with the governing party! All it does is tell me where someone lives. E.g I think Jerry comes from the US, but he might be a Russian who’s ashamed of his country
Truth be told, I would have objected to an upside down U.S.A. flag too because it’s not the flag, it’s a mutilation of the flag (inverting it.)
However: if that inverted flag displayer were being held prisoner - but the hostage taker still allowed access to Jag-Lovers because denying access would be too unspeakable a crime even for them - then it could be OK.
My recollection as a youth reading the World Book encyclopedia entry on flag etiquette was that the US flag should never be displayed upside down unless signalling an emergency. Therefore, I might have taken the inverted USA flag as a call for help and asked for police intervention…

Aha, it was high school for me. Too oddly close
