Here’s a link to my findings about thermostats and running temperatures:

82c vs 88c thermostat fully open temperature

Have been reading various Jaguar engine repair and training manuals and found some interesting data that I haven’t seen anywhere else before about thermostats. Manual indicates on how thermostats should be tested and indicates temperatures at which thermostats should be fully open: “In the pressurized environment of the cooling system an 82c thermostat is fully open at approximately 96c and an 88c one at 102c.”

What that means is that if you have 82c thermostats, then your engine temperature should be between 82c and 96c and if you have 88c t-stats then your engine temperature should be in a range from 88c to 102c.
If temperature rises above that, it means that you have reached maximum cooling capabilities of your cooling system, and this is not normal. Rasons can be various… non working electric fan, main fan clutch is tired, radiator clogged from outside, radiator clogged from inside, ignition timing issues etc.
