hi everyone
i have an ac cobra fitted with a v12 xjs and a 4 speed gearbox.
problem is the gearbox took it for a spin last weekend and first
gear is making a rattling noise only happens in first gear.
i was told it is an e-type 4 speed has anybody got any ideas bout
what this could be.

Hi Colin
I also have a dax cobra fitted with a V12 but on advice I have
opted for the BMW Getrag 5 speed box rather than the Jag 4 speed. I
am reliably told it is a much stronger box although there is a lot
of fuss in making up the conversion plates etc. AJ6 engineering
have a good web site and are very helpful if you get really stuck,
they are up your way (Cheshire). They also dotheir own gearbox
conversions etc.
Out of interest are you still running an E type engine on carbs or
is it a later injection lump?
Still having problems tuning mine right, be on the road next spring
with a bit of luck.

the original engine was a v12 run on carbs but dont know if its an
e-type engine how would I find that out.
i still have the old engine but crank has gone.
i took an engine out of an 87 xjs and put my carbs onto it instead
of efi unfortunately the head gasket has gone so I have bought an
engine out of an 1978 xjs he is swapping the engine for a diesel
rover dont know why.
i am keeping the efi on this engine im swapping engines on sat so
will hopefully find the problem with gearbox also
