[v12-engine] Distributorless ignition

Did all XJ12s for 1996 come with distributorless ignition or did it
begin post a certain VIN?
thanks

In reply to a message from dman1 sent Fri 18 May 2007:

AFAIK all the 6.0L engines fitted to the X300 saloon range were
distributorless, whereas all the 6.0L engines fitted to the XJS or
XJ40 had distributors to the end. The differences in the engine
would require other differences in the cars plumbing and electrical
systems to match, I believe, so I doubt that the X300 V12 cars ever
got anything other than that single version of the engine or there
would have had to be two versions of these ancillary things alsoHow
this translates into precise registration or model years can vary
by market and I have no idea of the VIN number situation. In the UK
there were V12 X300s available in 1994,5,6 and I believe a few in
1997.

The X300 engine was different in other respects also (cast iron
crank, different castings etc) and one can only assume it was a
Ford-inspired (as well as obviously Ford-paid!) development
programme that was designed to update the engine for future use and
probably beyond Jaguar to other cars in the PAG stable. Having
invested a lot of money, something must have changed at a high
level because the project died after very few (comparatively-
speaking) of the new X300 6.0L engines were made. It was always
known the X300 would convert to the V8 engined X308, but maybe they
planned to continue a limited-run V12 Daimler version like with the
Series 3 V12 saloons that were sold in parallel wit hthe XJ40 from
1986 to 1992. Or perhpas they intended to use the updated engine in
an Aston Martin / Volvo / Lincoln or something in its new form?–
