[v12-engine] Fwd: [E-Type] XJ13 V12 Motor

Just had to share this…

I would love to know the history.
Probably a fair price too.

regards,
Mike

Mike,

Interesting lump of metal. But it doesn’t look like the real deal to me.
Sump looks wrong (dry sump) and while the heads look kind of right they
appear too close together. (The V angle looks too narrow). Also I am sure
the experimental motor had twin 6 cylinder distributors (while the factory
restored XJ13 appeared with a single 12 cylinder distributor). Compared with
photos of the real thing, I’d be reluctant to bid on this one. Still, it
would be worth more research.

Regards

Mark.

Can anyone who reads German please provide a translation of
the description? Does it say anything about the history of
this engine? I.E. where it came from, how this guy/gal
obtained it, where it has been all these years, and etc
Inquiring minds want to know.–

Hi list,

Steven requested a translation, here it is:

Original and very rare XJ-13 engine (there never existed more than three
of them), XJ-13? You can read the full story
for example in Jaguar-Magazin no.67 Oct. 1990, reaching 320 km/h,
mid-engine, V12, 4 camshafts, 502 <DIN?> horsepower at 7600 rpm
(impossible to squeeze out more on the dyno used), 4.993,5 ccm, 522,6 Nm
torque, dry oil sump, was build by the factory in 1967/73
(theoretically) using two XK engines, many parts custom engineered, can
be turned at the fly-wheel with the help of your hands only, costs a bit
of an effort, but you can do it; it has been stored with a bit of oil in
every cylinder; extremely rare, you can pay by pro-forma invoice or cash
on delivery/pick up, buyer will pay shipping costs, seller will pay Ebay
fees.
